Ex-finance/consulting. Now a contemporary abstract artist (art here). Based in London. Third Culture Kid raised in 8 countries across 4 continents.
For the bulk of my life, I’d considered my TCK life to be generally positive; I thrived in the opportunities it provided me, revelled in the ease of slipping between cities and communities. Occasionally, I heard of instances of depression, self-harm and suicidal attempts amongst other TCKS. These I’d initially put down to bad luck/individual circumstances.
But now, as a parent facing the prospect of raising the next generation of TCKs in a cross-cultural marriage, I realise the truth about the TCK life is more complex. The TCK upbringing did in fact create some lifelong problems for me. And there is a far uglier side to the TCK life of which I was largely spared.
This site is where I explore all the ups and downs of the TCK life, where I dive into the data and research on TCKs, where I reflect on my own experiences and the experiences of my extended TCK family.
If you’re a TCK trying to find your way, or are a parent having to/looking to raise your children the TCK way, I hope you find something useful here.
